is God our refuge?

Psalm 46:1 states, "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." A refuge serves as a sanctuary for those who are under threat or in pursuit. In times of difficulty, the source of our comfort and assistance is determined by whom we choose to rely upon. In this psalm, the sons of Korah affirm that God is their refuge. Do we consider God to be our refuge as well?

If we regard God as our refuge, it should transcend mere words or slogans; it ought to embody a lifestyle. Recognizing God as our refuge implies several truths:

God offers protection from dangers. As stated in Psalm 18:29, "With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall."

God provides a secure haven. Psalm 118:9 reminds us, "It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man."

God has the power to heal our ailments. In John 11:4, Jesus proclaims, "This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it."

God can lead us through our darkest moments when we feel lost. As expressed in 2 Chronicles 20:12, "Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you."

God's love for us is profound. John 3:16 states, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life."

God is mightier than our most formidable adversaries or challenges. Psalm 46:10-11 declares, "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress."

God's presence is constant. Matthew 28:20 assures us, "And behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the world."

God is always prepared to embrace us. Matthew 11:28 invites, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

Thus, let us place our trust in God as our refuge, regardless of the challenges we face, for He will consistently support us. Choosing to rely on Him is undoubtedly the wisest decision we can make in our lives.

Amen.
