Act According to the spirit of God.

Luke 9:55 Jesus turned to them, and rebuked them, saying: You do not know what spirit you are animated from.

Jesus resolved to journey to Jerusalem and dispatched messengers to a Samaritan village to arrange accommodations for Him. However, He was not welcomed there due to His intention to proceed to Jerusalem. His disciples, James and John, wishing to defend Him, asked, "Lord, should we call down fire from heaven to consume them?" Such words reflected a desire for destruction and vengeance. Jesus responded by admonishing them, stating, "You do not understand the nature of the spirit you possess." Their anger led them to forget their true identity, prompting them to act in accordance with their flesh rather than the Spirit of God. How often do we lose sight of our identity and allow our emotions—anger, hatred, jealousy, resentment, or pride—to guide us, resulting in harm through our words and actions? Jesus reminded His disciples of His mission, emphasizing that He came not to destroy lives but to save them. As Christians, do our words and actions draw others to God or push them away? Let us remain mindful of our identity and our allegiance. We are disciples of Jesus Christ, and we must conduct ourselves in alignment with the Spirit of God.

Lord, we seek your forgiveness for any words, actions, or thoughts that fail to embody the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22). Grant us the strength, wisdom, and understanding to walk in accordance with your Spirit rather than the flesh.

In the name of your son Jesus Christ.

Amen.
