I Samuel 30:6 David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God.
David had sought refuge in the land of the Philistines because King Saul was trying to kill him. At that time, the Philistines formed an army to wage war against Israel. Akish requested David and his men to join his army against Israel. David agreed, but the princes of the Philistines became angry with Akish, demanding that he send David and his men back to the place they had come from. David and his army returned to Ziklag, the city where they had left their families and possessions. Upon arriving in the city, they found that the Amalekites had destroyed everything; they had not killed anyone but had taken captive their wives, daughters, and sons. Faced with this situation, David and the people who were with him were distraught; they wept greatly until they had no strength left to weep. David was in great distress because the people spoke of stoning him, for all were embittered in spirit, each because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God.
You too may feel distraught, anxious, and troubled by what you see in the world. You may feel downcast, fearful, and unsure of what to do. You may feel utterly powerless. David was in this situation. However, he made the right choice. He relied on God. Do you want to make this choice as well? Do you also want to rely on God?
Trust in God, not in yourself or anyone else. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5.
Relying on God means recognizing that God is with you; you have nothing to fear, for He can help you and strengthen you. Fear not, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10.
Relying on God: It means not to worry. Do not be anxious about anything; but in every situation, make your requests known to God through prayers and supplications, with thanksgiving. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6,7
Relying on God: It means to set your eyes on God, not on the circumstances. O our God, will you not judge them? For we are powerless before this vast multitude that is coming against us, and we do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you. 2 Chronicles 20:12
Relying on God: It means to seek God with all your heart. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13
Relying on God: It means to live to please God. I have been crucified with Christ; and if I live, it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me; and if I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20. Hebrews 11:6 tells us: But without faith, it is impossible to please God.
Relying on God: It means to live by faith. We walk by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7
David relied on God to regain his strength. God delivered him and all those who were with him, allowing them to defeat the Amalekites, recover their families and their possessions. God acted for David. He can act for you as well. Make the decision to rely on Him. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
May the Lord protect and deliver you!
Amen
